  • The Nines – NOHO – New York – The Infatuation

    NYCReview

The Nines is a piano bar with a coat check, velvet seats, and $26 cocktails. But don’t get the wrong impression. The carpet here is cheetah print, and the pianist might be playing a cover of “Buy U a Drank” when you stop by. In other words, this is a downtown piano bar—which means you won’t be forced to check your coat, and you’ll probably see a bunch of people enjoying an extravagant pregame before they head out to places with guest lists and promoters. The cocktails are well-executed, and the upscale bar food is, well, upscale bar food (tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, etc.), but the ambiance is the real draw. Want to sit in a warmly lit room and exchange some light banter as you try to figure out if you’re listening to a soft jazz cover of “Shallow”? This is the place to do it.

  • Family-Friendly Restaurants & Places to Eat in DC | Washington DC

Here’s a guide to some of our favorite family-friendly restaurants, where you’re sure to find a menu that pleases both you and your kids.

    Quick family-friendly spots

There is so much to see and do on a visit to Washington, DC, and for that reason, fast food often fits best into your touring schedule. Fortunately, there are many high quality food options near the National Mall.

For some tasty quick bites, try Potbelly Sandwich Shop in the Penn Quarter and Chinatown neighborhoods. In addition to having multiple DC locations, the eatery serves sandwiches all day long, and your kids will appreciate the creamy milkshakes. Nearby locations of Le Pain Quotidien serve delicious options for breakfast and lunch. Cava Grill offers a Mediterranean mix customized just for your taste buds. The steps are easy: you begin with a base, throw in a few delicious dips and spreads, stack it with a protein like braised beef or lamb, then top it off with crumbled feta, pita crisps, cucumber salad.

After visiting the National Zoo, stop in Baked by Yael. Kids adore the rainbow of cake pops, delicious cookies and the freshly made bagels. Take a seat in the colorful shop and sample one of their many cake pop flavors at this nut-free and kosher bakery.

Everyone loves a good burger, and the little ones are no exception. Bolt Burgers, located near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, stands out for offering unique features such as artisan cheeses, brioche buns, spice rubs and homemade relishes. Shake Shack has become a national sensation with its perfectly grilled burgers, adorned with soft potato rolls, crisp lettuce, ruby red tomatoes and legendary Shack Sauce. You can order yours at any of its DC locations: Dupont Circle, Union Station, Penn Quarter and Logan Circle, to name a few.

Why kids love DC - Your ultimate guide to a family-friendly vacation in Washington, DC

    Kid-friendly sit-down restaurants

A favorite of tourists and locals alike is Founding Farmers. The Foggy Bottom restaurant serves up a healthy, seasonal menu inspired by and sourced from family farms in neighboring Maryland and Virginia. While the name conjures signers of the Declaration of Independence, the dishes are all modern comfort food. Make sure to check out Farmers Fishers Bakers in Georgetown, too.

The iconic Old Ebbitt Grill is one of the oldest restaurants in DC. Established in 1856, this DC institution is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with to-go sandwiches, shareable desserts and signature raw bar. Not too far away in Penn Quarter is Carmine’s, an ideal gathering place for families serving heaping plates of pasta and Italian favorites.

Formerly a pharmacy with a soda fountain, Tonic at Quigley’s Pharmacy is located in a historic building in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood near the George Washington University campus. The restaurant specializes in hearty comfort food, and in good weather, Tonic serves meals on an outdoor patio and garden.

Oyamel Cocina Mexicana is one of local celebrity chef José Andrés’ most popular restaurants, located in Penn Quarter. Specializing in fine Mexican cuisine, kids are enchanted by the tableside preparation of guacamole, while parents will relish the margaritas and mojitos. Dining here will elevate your experience with Latin American food.

There’s something reassuring about finding a Hard Rock Cafe in a new town. The menu, filled with American classics, is sure to satisfy a hungry family. The Hard Rock in DC is no exception. Kids will also be dazzled by the fun, star-filled decorations and memorabilia all over the restaurant.

    Museum cafes for everyone

For something altogether unique and memorable, have a Mediterranean-inspired lunch or coffee and cake at the Courtyard Cafe at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum. The breathtaking architecture and expansive open space provides room to explore for the little ones.

Located in the lower level of the National Museum of the American Indian, the Mitsitam Native Foods Cafe provides a stellar view and cuisine from different regions of the Americas. Native American chefs showcase distinctive food cultures with seasonally inspired dishes; try the fried bread, chili or buffalo burgers.

The National Museum of American History has a very bright and busy cafeteria called the Stars & Stripes Cafe on the lower level. Open for lunch only, the cafe uses sustainable food products to make their pizza, barbeque and desserts.

During the winter season, the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden offers meals at the lively Pavilion Cafe. Settle in to watch the spinning skaters while you enjoy pizza, pasta, sandwiches and soup. During the summer, the Pavilion has panoramic views of the fountain and gardens, and on Friday evenings, the restaurant is transformed into a Jazz Cafe.

    Washington’s historic markets

Love exploring local farmers markets? If you do, plan to visit the famous Eastern Market, a historic community hub located on Capitol Hill. Inside, you will find vendors selling fresh seafood, flowers, produce and meats.

Pick up a spicy empanada, a custom-made deli sandwich or sample local cheeses. Find a table at Market Lunch and order their beloved blueberry pancakes. On weekends, the Flea Market at Eastern Market opens to include more locally sourced products and artisans selling handmade crafts. Kids will love the street performers, too.

And don’t forget about Union Market, DC’s hippest feasting ground. This revived mid-century produce- and meat-selling bazaar is home to food stalls and informal restaurants with everything from Asian-inspired tacos and dumplings to made-in-DC sausages and Chesapeake oysters.

    Notable hotel restaurants

Several DC hotels have restaurants that cater to families on the go. The Avenue Cafe and Lounge, inside the Holiday Inn Washington DC (near the White House), offers breakfast and dinner buffets, where even the pickiest eaters will find something to love. If you’re a hotel guest, kids eat free.

Article One American Grill in the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill has a sunny five-story atrium and serves a deluxe breakfast buffet. In the evening, the Grill fires up the steaks and fresh seafood, but they also offer vegetarian and “Stay-Fit” healthy options.

The Marriott Marquis Washington DC, near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, has multiple dining venues. High Velocity is their family friendly sports bar that serves casual fare.

A good meal and local brews

The District has many beer-centric pubs where kids feel welcome, and adults get to sample from an impressive selection of local, national and international brews.

City Tap House in Chinatown is known as a gastropub, because the dining room serves top-notch, family friendly fare along with 40 draft beers. If you love Belgian beer, treat yourself to Brasserie Beck. The upscale restaurant carries more than 100 Belgian beers, including Chef Robert Wiedmaier’s own Antigoon brew.

On the Capitol Riverfront, Bluejacket provides beer lovers with an expansive range of lagers and ales, as well as kid-friendly starters and sandwiches.

The Best Restaurants and Places to Eat in Washington, DC

  • Urban Farmer Steakhouse in Portland – Modern Restaurant | The Nines Hotel

The country décor uses organic, reclaimed, and modern materials as a backdrop for the fresh fare, including the twenty-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the spirit of outdoor dining, while a field of wheatgrass in the room’s center completes the sensation. For a truly cozy experience, the “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables.

Featured beef includes award-winning American Wagyu from Strube Ranch in Texas, all accented with sophisticated spins on traditional steakhouse side dishes. Sample roasted squash with candied almonds or braised greens with sunchokes. Save room for dessert, all playful takes of classic American sweets. Apple crisp with pumpkin pie ice cream and carrot cake with pineapple sherbet and carrot soda are menu highlights.

Round out the meal with a bottle of your favorite drink, many of which are secured through partnerships with local distilleries, breweries, and wineries. All wine is sourced from winemakers who prioritize sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming, in keeping with the restaurant’s overall philosophy.

There’s no wonder it specializes in hosting weddings and other touchstone celebrations. Its full-service bar and other amenities plus a view of the river and surrounding fields and woodlands make for a gorgeous meal. If waterfront dining is the goal, then the Moshulu, a four-masted sailing ship built in 1904 and considered the largest sailing ship of its kind in the world, is a natural choice. In 1968, the ship was purchased in Finland to be restored and converted into a restaurant. In the autumn of 1974, the Moshulu was towed to Philadelphia and docked at Penn’s Landing, opening for business in 1975. Despite a fire in 1989, the ship was sold to HMS Ventures Inc. and was restored and rechristened in 1996. Since 2003, restauranteur Martin Grims has supervised the operation. Chef Anthony Bonett is responsible for the extensive menu fare here, and the setting is responsible for the gorgeous views.

Later, the Schuylkill Dam was built, which provided power to the water pumping system. Sadly, the facility shut down operations in 1909 due to increasing pollution of the river. Established in 1745, the Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville once served travelers making their way up and down the Delaware River or passing through via land routes. A story is often told about the day General George Washington, commander of the Continental Army, came to the Bass to enjoy its accommodations, but was turned away by the innkeeper, who was loyal to King George and England. To the rear of the Black Bass lies the Delaware Canal, which was built in the 1830s. • FCM HOSPITALITY MAKES HISTORY WITH THE GRAND OPENING OF PHILADELPHIA’S LARGEST RESTAURANT WITH LIBERTY POINT ON THE WATERFRONT

FCM Hospitality and Owner Avram Hornik announce the grand opening of a brand new restaurant makes Philadelphia history this week. Liberty Point is now open and has replaced Hornik’s Craft Hall as the city’s largest restaurant with seating and capacity for up to 1,400 guests. The new outdoor-indoor concept features three main levels, five bars, food, drink, live entertainment, beautiful landscaping, lush plants, blooming flowers, unique vibes and the best views of the waterfront. Liberty Point is located at 211 S. Columbus Blvd. Philadelphia, PA 19106, adjacent to the Independence Seaport Museum.

The Main Bar Area, Sunset Patio and the Sky Bar are all reservable through Resy.com. The Picnic Area around the stage will be a mix of reservations and first-come, first served around the shows. The entire first floor ground level is first come, first served. Other areas are reserved for large group dining and special events to start.

FCM Hospitality and Hornik are known for being the leader in outdoor dining for Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania – and they have led the way and set the bar for other outdoor venues during the pandemic. FCM Hospitality currently operates Morgan’s Pier, Harper’s Garden, Juno, Lola’s Garden, Rosy’s Taco Bar, Concourse Dance Bar, The Dolphin Tavern, Garden at Cherry St Pier, River Beer Garden (seasonal pop-up) and now Liberty Point. Other new spots are in the works for future announcements.

Set on the Delaware River Waterfront, Liberty Point is Philadelphia’s largest outdoor restaurant showcasing unobstructed, panoramic waterfront views. With a capacity of 1,400 people, Liberty point offers three levels of food, drinks and live entertainment, with a spectacular backdrop. Embracing the outdoor seasonal environment, Liberty point offers a casual dining menu of bites, sandwiches, salads and raw bar selections. Serving a refreshing menu of beer, wine, summer drinks and cocktails that will keep you cool while enjoying the sunshine and have you staying to see the sunset.

There is a permanent stage in the heart of the restaurant complex. New entertainment weekly will feature live music Friday & Saturday and DJs throughout the week. Liberty Point is the perfect destination to host an event with a unique wow factor. With a long list of private and semi-private spaces available, Liberty Point can host events from 10-1,400 people.

Hornik said, “We are excited to bring this new dining concept to the Waterfront to join the already vibrant destination for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities for the residents and visitors of Philadelphia. There’s always something happening at Penn’s Landing. It is the top Summer destination in Philadelphia that hosts concerts, fairs, food and drink and we are happy to be a part of it.”

With this project, FCM Hospitality adds to their growing footprint on the Philadelphia waterfront, with Craft Hall, Unleashed Bark and Beer, The Garden at Cherry Street Pier, Morgan’s Pier, River Beer Garden at Race Street Pier (seasonal pop-up) and now Liberty Point.

Liberty Point is a restaurant five years in the making for Hornik and his team at FCM Hospitality. He said, “For 5 years I’ve been working with the management of the Independence Seaport Museum to develop a concept that would utilize the amazing river views from their large outdoor decks. The restaurant was scheduled to open in spring of 2021 but was delayed due to covid. We are thrilled to take things to the next level for outdoor, riverfront dining in Philadelphia.”

For the name, Liberty Point is inspired by the history of Philadelphia and it’s waterfront and a celebration of the Liberty which is at the heart of American Identity. It is a celebration of freedom, an area of land that juts into a body of water, and a point of liberty to enjoy your freedom by socializing with friends and family. Liberty is what sailors were granted when their ship docked at port and they were allowed to go ashore and experience the town.

Liberty Point has three main levels, with other sub-levels, with 25,000 square feet of space outside and 3,000 square feet on the inside. It can legally host 1,400 guests at one time. It will be open seven days a week – 12pm to 2am. Liberty Point will be family friendly, and the first level will be dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the boat bar area located on the first floor. Only service animals will be allowed to head to 2nd floor

Liberty Point will create over 200+ new jobs in the Philadelphia marketplace.

For food, foodies will find a casual menu with features like a raw bar, sandwiches, salads and seasonal bites. Food services will include lunch and dinner, plus a later night menu. FCM is exploring options for happy hour and a bar bites menu.

Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef Qadir Jordan, who was born and raised in West Philadelphia. He attended Roman Catholic and he is an Art institute of Philadelphia Graduate. He spent the last 15 years working in various Philadelphia restaurants such as Fork, Garces restaurants, White Dog and Farmacia. He is a classic French trained chef but enjoys using Asian ingredients – and he has a passion for pasta. Chef’s favorite dishes are Loaded Shrimp and Grit “Tots” and “The Whole Jawn.” The menu features vegetarian and gluten-free options. The menu will include fresh fish and locally sourced ingredients, with purveyors that include Lancaster Farm Fresh and Green Meadow Farms.

For drinks, look for a refreshing menu of beer, wine, mocktails, frozen summer drinks and cocktails on tap that will keep you cool while enjoying the sunshine. Cocktails were a collaboration between Beverage Manager Matt Deutsch and Bar Manager Bob Labar.

For vibes, look for the best waterfront views, expansive space, unique vantage points from various levels, unique seating styles throughout the complex – and amazing waterfront location that is central to all the activities between Spruce Street Harbor Park to Cherry Street Pier to Race Street Pier to Craft Hall – and beyond.  People want to be outdoors more so this new location is a perfect spot for everyone. It will be great for everything from a date night, to family outings, to special celebrations, to summer and fall fun, and more.

Guests will find lush greenery, blooming colorful flowers, seasonal decor and plants – as beautiful and stunning as the landscaping at Morgan’s Pier. For the renovation, FCM covered up and protecting a lot of the concrete, building kitchens, bars, and stage to take it from an empty space to a functioning restaurant and entertainment destination. The complex will have five main bars, including the sky bar (elevated on top), main bar, boat bar, stage bar and inside bar – with full names and descriptions coming soon

Inside, look for an interior bar and dining area with a wall of vintage mirrors so you can view the water behind you while at the bar. The space was primarily concrete so we have brought in a lot more natural materials and plan to have plenty of plants and flowers throughout the venue.

For entertainment, Liberty Point houses a permanent stage for live music, DJs and other entertainment, with live music set for every Friday and Saturday, and DJs set for Thursday and Sunday. Each bar will have televisions to catch the big game.

For the stage and entertainment area, there will be a ten dollar cover in the immediate stage area for Thursday to Saturday evening shows once they begin. Wednesday night acoustic night and Sunday reggae shows are free with no cover.

    General schedule will be:
    Wednesday – Acoustic 6:00pm to 9:00pm

  • Liberty Point Philadelphia: Photos of city’s largest restaurant on the waterfront – On top of Philly news

Standing between canopy-covered tables and terraced stone seating, gazing out over blue water as you watch bartenders shake cocktails and families fall on baskets of food, it’s hard to remember you’re in the middle of Philadelphia.

But that’s new restaurant Liberty Point, with 1,400 seats backing its boast of being the city’s largest.

Wrapping around and above the Independence Seaport Museum, the new outdoor dining spot from FCM Hospitality strengthens the transformation of the long under-appreciated, long under-utilized Delaware Riverfront.

Philly’s waterfront at Penn’s Landing now feels like a true summer destination.

The area is only in the early stages of a planned $2.2 billion overhaul, which will bring 3.3 million square feet of new development including mixed-use towers, ground-floor retail, and a new public park stretching over the I-95 corridor (but not a new Sixers arena).

Crowds already come to the small green space carved into the basin there, thanks to Spruce Street Harbor Park. Launched in 2014, it was one of the first successful activations by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, the public-private entity that’s also behind the Cherry Street Pier and is a partner in Liberty Point.

And SSHP is back for another season — with the hammocks, light shows, giant chess, boardwalk-style food, and Oasis Barge Bar that made it cool to come to the river again.

But now the chatter and excitement doesn’t stop at the edge of the park. Thanks to the draw of the new restaurant, the flow of pedestrians continues north and east, rounding out over the waterfront.

Dock catch your eye? You can rent the colorful, dragon- and swan-shaped paddle boats lined up in the basin ($12 for a half hour), and head out onto the water to access cooling breezes plus up-close views of the historic ships docked to the south. If you plan in advance you can sign up for a kayak excursion there, too.

Or continue walking and hit the line of ice cream, water ice, and dippin dots trucks that line the riverbank’s edge.

Turn again and you’ll see the entrance to the restaurant, a steep flight of steps that leads to a blond-wood cacophony of interlocking patios and bars, all with great views.

Reservations are a good idea for groups, but you can usually find a spare stool or two.

With a menu of snacks and sandwiches that doesn’t top $20, and both beer and cocktails on tap, you’ll be able to eat and drink while looking at the Ben Franklin Bridge, ships making their way into port, and the SS New Jersey, docked across the river in Camden.

It all makes for a pretty impressive scene. If you’ve got friends visiting for the weekend, or just want to take a mini summer vacation without leaving home, Philadelphia’s waterfront is now a highly valid option.
